Depression and anxiety in adolescent girls – What is there to know?
Depression and anxiety and can both strike at once. When this happens, things are not good. It is necessary to see a professional therapist and develop a plan for combating the illnesses. Most people do not know that depression and anxiety occur mostly in girls than in boys. Although both genders are affected by these mental health conditions, it seems that adolescent girls are more prone to becoming sick. This indeed comes as a surprise. We are aware of the fact that there are tremendous differences in the way in which boys and girls process emotional stimuli, but we did not know that girls are so vulnerable in the face of mental illness.
Why adolescent girls are at such a high risk for depression and anxiety
Boys seem to be just fine. No matter what happens, they get on with their lives and do not have to worry about teen depression and feeling better. Guys live their lives to the fullest. Girls, on the other hand, have to cope with complicated emotions and, more often than not, they are overwhelmed. The risk for developing depression or anxiety is the same for both sexes. The thing is that this risk significantly increases in teen girls. Changes in the body, negative thinking styles, and, last but not least, low self-esteem are the culprits. Girls experience a great deal of interpersonal stress. We cannot say the same thing about boys. Guys seem to be on top of the situation. Emotions do not get to them that easily.
Recognizing the signs and symptoms
Is your adolescent girl depressed or anxious? Maybe depression and anxiety is spinning out of control and you do not even realize it. There is no better time like the present to find out. If you do not know the main signs and symptoms, then start learning. You will know for sure that there is something going on with your daughter if she:
- Has problems at school
- Is running away
- Cannot let put the phone down
- Has a reckless behavior
If the things mentioned above sound familiar to you, then your daughter is in emotional pain. Most importantly, you need to do something about it.
Early intervention is critical in the case of depression and anxiety
Diagnosis, as well as early intervention, are of paramount importance when it comes down to mental illness. Issues like depression and anxiety can get out of hands really quick and, if that should happen, there is little hope. If you are the parent of a teen girl, you need to help your suffering child. Ignoring the problem and pretending that nothing is wrong can have devastating effects. If you are already witnessing the effects of poor functioning, take the girl to a holistic treatment center. There, they will take good care of her. Holistic centers for treating mental illness do not use pills or traditional therapies. They rely on something more important than that – in other words, treating the body as a whole, the natural way. Stop wasting time.
